#BrownRenassaince

Yesterday while visiting with my talented friends Alejandra Olguin and Jacinto sat and brainstormed what exactly we all are actively working towards. Black and Brown Equality, Excellence, and Agency. We are living through shape-shifting times, and in many ways we are seeing our community awaken spiritually. We are returning to our old traditions, to learn our mother tongue, to pray with our elders, piecing and threading our multicultural identities. We are the children of the Sun waking up and breaking away at our cocoons. Brown Renaissance is a collective consciousness movement of POC multilingual, multicultural Black and Brown artists, writers, business owners, scholars, musicians, politicians, and activists creating for forward-thinking sustainable societal change.

Brown = Any one person who identifies themselves as POC and proud.

Renaissance = A period of Revival. Renaissance. a. The humanistic revival of classical art, architecture, literature, and learning that originated in Italy in the 14th century and later spread throughout Europe. b. The period of this revival, roughly the 14th through the 16th century, marking the transition from medieval to modern times.

Collective consciousness = or collective conscious (French: conscience collective) is the set of shared beliefs, ideas and moral attitudes which operate as a unifying force within society. The term was introduced by the French sociologist Émile Durkheim in his Division of Labour in Society in 1893.

#BrownRenaissance is a Verb. an action

Post Election

Post election fatigue has had me unable to create. There’s been an uptick in hate crimes since the Trump Election which I still am in complete shock; in that it firmly undresses the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I want to pick up my brush, my typewriter, my tears, my strength and paint it all on city walls.  Self-care, self-love, compassion is so needed during this nightmare.

We all have the ability to choose love. I choose love. join me.
